Lightwater Valley is going to be getting a little more wet 'n' wild from the upcoming 2009 season as we will see the arrival of Wild River Rapids! Replacing the family rollercoaster Grizzly Bear, Wild River Rapids is a fantastic family thrill ride that everyone can enjoy!

LWV Buy Wild River Rapids

Following its a season-long lease, Lightwater Valley have purchased Wild River Rapids from James Mellors Amusements. The family water ride proved an instant hit with theme park guests this year, which left the park with no option but to buy the ride for themselves.

  • 4th Apr 2009
    • Wild River Rapids opens to the public as the 2009 season commences.

  • 12th Mar 2009
    • Finishing touches added such as the main light fitting and boats placed in the trough. Testing begins next week.

  • 11th Mar 2009
    • Boats and lighting features have arrived on site. Ride structure was finished come late afternoon.

  • 10th Mar 2009
    • The base frame for the ride is complete. The lift hill and rapid channels are beginning to take shape.

  • 9th Mar 2009
    • Mellors arrive on site for the construction of Wild River Rapids. They are putting in the base frame for the ride and adjoining panels.

  • 8th Mar 2009
    • It appears that Grizzly Bear has arrived in Netherlands. Photos can be found at themepark.nl

  • 5th Mar 2009
    • The ride was completely dismantled by lunchtime. The wooden bears that surrounded the ride will be used elsewhere in the park.

  • 4th Mar 2009
    • Removal process continues. Right-hand side of the ride has completely gone. The buyer is named Collin Buwalda.

  • 3rd Mar 2009
    • Track sections are removed and loaded onto lorries. Buyer is from Netherlands and will take the ride to travelling fairs.

  • 2nd Mar 2009
    • The Grizzly Bear buyer arrives on-site with removal vechicles. Cars removed along with station.

  • 20th Dec 2008
    • Wild River Rapids is announced as the new ride for 2009. The ride will be rented from travelling showmen, James Mellor.

  • 1st Dec 2008
    • The Grizzly Bear is put up for sale after 4 years at Lightwater Valley Theme Park.
